Bower Hill Mingo Creek Bourbon
In February 1794, 500 militiamen from Mingo Creek near Pittsburgh formed an organization with bylaws and even a court to enforce their stand against the whiskey tax. They continued to meet and petition Congress with all their grievances against the federal government. In Philadelphia, Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton considered such assemblies unlawful attempts to destroy federal authority. Fiver months later, blood would be shed on Bower Hill.
