1998 MERCEDES-BENZ AMG CLK GTR STRASSENVERSION

Mercedes-Benz returned to Le Mans in 1998 after a seven-year hiatus. The car they brought was the CLK GTR, a mid-engined prototype that required 25 road-going replicas to be built. Ilmor Engineering modified the V12, increasing displacement to 6.9 liters and an output of 604 horsepower. Inside, Mercedes barely tried to hide the CLK GTR’s racing origins — racing buckets covered in leather, optional air conditioning, and two storage bins beneath the folding doors. The CLK GTR pictured here is number 12 of 25 and was originally sold in Germany, before making its way to Hong Kong and later Seattle. Showing only 896 miles, the car has been meticulously maintained and has a full history of documentation since new. Buyers can see the car at the 2021 Gooding & Co. auction this August in Pebble Beach.
