CARROLL SHELBY’S 1965 427 COBRA ROADSTER

There are cars that exceed being mere transportation to define the period they were built in, and this Shelby Cobra is one of that rare breed. Not just an ultra-desirable 427 Cobra, chassis number CSX3178 was built for the Texan himself, remaining in his ownership from its completion in March 1966 to his passing in 2012. One of only five 427 Cobras painted charcoal grey, Shelby had the car repainted blue in 1972, red in 2002, and upgraded the engine to the race-spec side-oiler, aluminum-head 427. When the current owner bought the car in 2012, it was restored to its original specification by specialists Legendary Motorcar Company. Carroll’s 289 Cobra sold for $14 million, so expect this Cobra to top that figure when it comes to auction.
