For years racing enthusiasts have bought realistic steering wheels to use with simulators when not at the track. Fanatec and BMW Motorsports have gone one step further with the M4 GT3 Podium Steering Wheel. It’s the actual steering wheel created for the 2022 BMW M4 GT3 race car — a quick release system allows the wheel to be removed from its USB-C-connected podium and placed inside the IRL car. As genuine racing equipment, it has pro-level construction and features, including a carbon fiber body, RGB LED-backlit buttons, 12-position rotary switches, custom thumb encoders, dual-action magnetic shifters, and dual-Hall sensor clutch paddles. The various functions are programmable via CAN bus in the race car and via Fanalab software on the PC; the wheel will be available in Q2 2021.
