In a solid limestone hillside on the eastern edge of the Texas Hill Country, Clayton Korte inserts a private wine cellar. The entrance of the cave is masked by a courtyard lined with towering oak and elm trees, native vegetation, and boulders found on-site during excavation. Its opening is made from board-formed concrete that will whether overtime and become a part of the natural landscape as wild moss spread across it. A patina steel and glass entry leads to a tasting lounge with a salvaged cedar countertop and blackened white oak cabinetry. Douglas fir lining the walls and ceiling create a warm complement to exposed stone and concrete, and also provides the shelving for the chilled cellar housing 4,000 bottle of wine.
