Honda engineer Michimasa Fujino came up with the HondaJet’s signature over-the-wing engine mount configuration in 1997, nearly 10 years before the founding of Honda Aviation. In the years since the company has continued to refine the design. The Elite S is the latest continuation of this trend. Operational improvements include an increased maximum takeoff weight, enabling greater range or allowing for an extra passenger on board. Also notable are new avionics features that replace voice-based FAA communications with a text-based system for greater accuracy, and a new steering augmentation system that lessens pilot workload. The new model will be noticeable on the tarmac, as well, with a red “S” on the exclusive gunmetal, gold, or deep sea blue paint scheme.
