In October 1965, when the Silver Cloud series was replaced by the Silver Shadow, Rolls-Royce went away from its proud coachbuilding tradition. With the Boat Tail, it’s officially back. A one-of-a-kind commission, it moves beyond Bespoke customization with original bodywork and features, including an integral grille, a wrap-around windscreen, and an “aft deck” with Caleidolegno veneer, which is also applied to the lower cabin and floor area. With the press of a button, the “deck” opens like a butterfly, revealing a hosting suite with one side dedicated to aperitifs, the other, cuisine, including custom “Boat Tail”-engraved silverware and a specially-made champagne refrigerator. In between, a unique parasol raises and lowers to offer shade when necessary. While the Boat Tail is most certainly not for sale, Rolls-Royce has formally re-established its coachbuilding department for other clients looking to create a personal statement on wheels.
