Beating out Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge in the Swiss Alps, Arouca 516 is now the longest pedestrian suspended footbridge in the world. The steel bridge is located in Portugal’s municipality of Arouca and stretches 1,692 across the banks of the Paiva River, supported by a pair of concrete V-shaped posts. Floating 574 feet in the air, visitors are afforded sweeping views across the UNESCO-recognized Arouca Geopark during their 10-minute journey across, while the grids on the floor give a glimpse of the rushing waters below.
