Perched on the edge of a cliff on Orcas Island, the Buck Mountain Cabin embraces its rugged site to create a retreat immersed in nature. The blackened timber home is situated on a basalt hillside in a small outcropping. While the structure is partially embedded into the terrain, the rear elevation cantilevers 22 feet above the ground. Bedrooms are placed on the forest floor allowing living spaces to float above in the tree tops, where expansive glazing immerses rooms in the scenery. The upper level extends out to a suspended deck, affording expansive views over the water and of the San Juan Islands.
