Set within the excavated remains of an abandoned sandstone quarry, the Ca’n Terra House is a rugged retreat on the Spanish island of Menorca. Ensamble Studio started the process by scanning the cave with laser technology. From there, the stone was cleaned and living spaces placed throughout the existing rock formations left from a century ago. The addition of translucent panels helps to divide rooms, keeping the integrity of the site intact, while skylights cut into the ceilings brighten the caved interior with natural light. Solar panels, a septic tank, and a water cistern allow the home to operate completely off-grid.
