WIth the Gansevoort Peninsula Park, New Yorkers won’t have to venture to The Hamptons to sunbath in the sand. The 5.5-acre park will bring Manhattan’s first public beach to Pier 52 between Gansevoort and Little West 12th streets. Along with the sandy beach area, the $70 million project will also include kayak access, a sports field, salt marsh, dog run, and picnic area. The Whitney Museum of American Art is adding in a public art project by David Hammons that’ll be the country’s largest upon completion. Sponsored by the Hudson River Park Trust and designed by James Corner Field Operations, constructed on the project will start this spring and is expected to open in 2023.
