LEDGE HOUSE

The team at Wallmakers has a knack for turning materials others see as waste into incredible structures. The Ledge House is an exquisite example. Integrated into a mountainside in India, the striking residence nearly becomes an extension of the natural landscape with a facade made from treated Casuarina poles. The wood comes from a fast-growing tree and is typically used for scaffolding, fencing, or scrapped completely. Internal walls are formed with loose stones dug up during the excavation process, giving the interior a cave-life atmosphere, while the flooring is an assortment of cut pieces of wood waste. As you approach the front elevation, floor-to-ceiling glazing opens the main living space to views over the valley.
