On an island inlet in the Pacific Northwest, David Van Galen Architecture nestles the Little House Big Shed at the edge of a wooded ravine. The remote retreat is split between a pair of narrow volumes to minimize disruption to the five-acre site. Each one features a shed-like silhouette with a slanted metal roof and is clad Corten steel panels that have been left to weather naturally. The larger structure acts as the primary residence and houses the main living areas, while a studio and guest rooms occupy the smaller. To take advantage of the natural scenery, both buildings include expansive panels of glazing and deck space to immerse individuals in the forest landscape, whether inside and out.
