MOVIKHEIEN CABINS

Along the coast of Norway, Spacegroup has envisioned the Movikheien Cabins. The complex consists of 16 wooden retreats nestled throughout a rugged forest. To minimize disruption to the existing terrain, the sustainable structures are situated on a stilted base and rather than roads, each one is accessed by a network of walking trails. The simple, cubed volumes don’t require heavy machinery to construct. Their components can easily be transported through the property and put together on-site. Once assembled, the minimalist cabins feature birch plywood-wrapped walls and ceilings, solid pine floors, and expansive terraces overlooking the fjord. The project is a response to the pandemic, providing local Norwegians an escape when travel is limited.
