Situated off the coast of Ireland on Inis Oírr, the smallest of the Aran Islands in Galway Bay, Studio Drop brings an off-grid artist studio to the remote shoreline. It’s designed by Jordan Ralph, who found inspiration in local sights including the Martello tower and beehive huts. These influences can be seen in the timber pod’s cylindrical form, while its green tint blends into the surrounding landscape. Its construction borrows from traditional methods used by local boat builders in Galway, specifically, those restoring the hooker fishing boat “Loveen.” The interior is an artistic haven, featuring a hammock made from a salvaged trawler net that was washed ashore and a window that frames in views of the rugged coast. Commissioned by Drop Everything for Galway 2020, the hut will be available for weekly rentals until August.
