SUNSHINE CANYON HOUSE

After their residence was destroyed by the Fourmile Canyon Fire in 2010, the homeowners decided to rebuild again on the charred landscape. The Sunshine Canyon House is situated on a steep slope, once occupied by a mining company. Drawing inspiration from the site’s heritage, the dwelling features a rusty corrugated steel facade reminiscent of the abandoned mining structures while exterior decks and walls are clad untreated Ipe to blend in with the area’s burnt remains. Internally, vertical grain fir casework, white walls, and concrete floors create warm, modern living spaces. To take advantage of the surrounding scenery, south-facing glazing brings in views of the rugged Colorado terrain.
