TOPLESS HOUSE

Located on a hillside on the coast of France, the Topless House replaces the ruins of a former veranda. The new addition is an extension of a vacation home overlooking the Atlantic. Contemporary in form, the unit features a removable roof that retracts to expose the interior to the sky and wash it in sunlight. When open, the roof cantilevers towards the ocean as if it’s levitating over the terrace. Glazed doors clad the exterior, immersing the room in coastal views and seamlessly expanding the indoors outside. Although most of the volume is made to be transparent, an outdoor shower is fitted with a sandblasted glass door to offer privacy after a day at sea.
