In the rocky formations of Sakinaw Lake, Woven Architecture and Design nestles the Vertes Retreat. The L-shaped volume neatly fits into the natural landscape 30 feet above the water. Its modern form is clad in blackened timber planks to blend into the scenery, while natural cedar boards offer a warm contrast. Internally, the main living area is anchored by a steel fireplace, complemented by concrete floors, timber ceilings, and white cabinets. Floor-to-ceiling windows bring the views into focus, immersing the living space in the massive boulders and ancient cedars. The interior spills out to a terrace protected by the flat roof’s oversize eaves. Featuring a dining room, lounge space, and fire pit, the open-air area provides the opportunity to dwell in nature.
