Enveloped by surreal views of Lake Wakatipu and snow-capped peaks, the Waimarino Lodge aims to break away from New Zealand’s typically lodge retreat. Guests stay in a series of sleek, minimalist villas situated along the waterfront. Green roofs blend their clean lines into the landscape, and on the interior, expansive glazing immerses the contemporary interiors in rugged scenery. The property will also offer visitors access to their spa and yoga studio, lounge, restaurant, and micro-distillery. With a focus on sustainability, the property is powered by off-grid technology, lake and spring-fed water, and organic treatment systems, while food will be prepared from the onsite vegetable garden and orchard. The Waimarino Lodge is expected to open in late 2022.
