Reverse-engineered from Ernest Hemingway’s legendary boat Pilar with help from naval architect Bill Prince, The new Wheeler 38 marks the relaunch of the Wheeler Yacht Company. The boat’s cold-molded mahogany hull looks nearly identical to Papa Hemingway’s original but will have a flatter running surface under the waves to help accommodate the higher speeds (the top end is 30 knots) afforded by modern engines. While the exterior is a throwback, underneath the craft is filled with modern conveniences like iPad control of most functions, air conditioning, autopilot, and Sub-Zero appliances.
