YATSUGATAKE HOUSE

Suspended off a hillside in the mountains of Japan, the Yatsugatake House is immersed in aerial views of the landscape. The structure is comprised of two horizontal planes, partially anchored to the rocky terrain. The remainder of the volume extends off the ridge. Braced by a mega column, it cantilevers over the ground and creates the illusion of floating in mid air. Internally, floor-to-ceiling glass make up the perimeter walls, affording living spaces dramatic vistas of the surroundings.
