In a forest on the coast of Chile, ZeroBuilders have completed a 100% autonomous dwelling. The ZeroCabin wraps a timber frame in structural insulated panels made from pulverized cardboard. Its unique form is inspired by the landscape, positioning thermal windows toward the east to take advantage of the views, as well as the incoming sunlight to heat the interior. Rather than fossil fuels, the house is powered by a 2kW off-grid solar system, while nature’s batteries, aka wood, and a Becker Stove work together to heat water and prepare food. For minimal disruption to the natural environment, the structure is elevated off the ground on a wooden platform.
